Holborn Central

FDS were appointed principal contractor to deliver a comprehensive enabling works package above a liver underground station in Central London.

The initial works consisted of decommissioning all services, followed by the strip out of seven office floor plates, complete with WC cores. With just a single entrance door leading to a raised lift lobby for access, internal hoarding was erected to segregate goods and personnel distribution. Vehicles for waste collections were banked onto a local cul-de-sac and barriered off from the public during loading.

Works then progressed to include licensed asbestos removal in both lift shafts followed by complex chimney demolition across 5 unique cores. To enable this, extensive temporary and permanent works were designed by in-house engineers which included connection strengthening where retrospective justification was not possible. When loading and unloading the temporary works, FDS utilised the latest deflection monitoring technology to ensure the stability of the structure was maintained throughout.
