FDS were awarded the subcontract to strip out and remove existing finishes at the West One Shopping Centre which sits atop Bond St Underground Station. The works were all carried out at night and the centre returned safely and cleanly to the general public each and every morning. This necessitated careful resourcing and well-judged programming at the start of each shift. Waste was removed from site every night due to limited space and areas adequately protected.
One particular challenge was the removal of a steel-structured glazed atrium which surrounded the escalator void within the centre. Complex access had to be erected each night before operatives began removing the screen from within a fall-protected zone. Elsewhere some retail kiosk spaces had to be carefully stripped in phases to allow them to keep trading during the Works.
Each stage of the works were completed on schedule and significantly without incident with residential neighbours.
Daily progress records were essential in setting the brief for the next shift. Measured goals were key to avoiding public disturbance.
